TROY (WWJ) — A 21-year-old Rochester woman is in trouble with the law after allegedly driving the wrong way on I-75 and causing a crash last weekend.

It unfolded shortly before 7 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, according to Troy police. Patrol officers in the area of I-75 and Adams Road heard a loud crash that morning and saw traffic backed up in the northbound lanes of the freeway.

When officers got on northbound I-75 to investigate, they saw a “severe multi-car crash” on the overpass above Adams.

The officers checked on the drivers of a Chevy Silverado and Chevy Equinox, both of which had heavy front-end damage. Both drivers had minor injuries.

The third vehicle — a Chevy Malibu driven by the Rochester woman — also had heavy front-end damage.

Witnesses told police they saw the woman’s Malibu heading south in the northbound lanes of the freeway prior to the crash. The driver was taken to Troy Beaumont Hospital with serious injuries.

Officers investigating the crash noticed she smelled like alcohol, so a search warrant was granted to draw her blood to determine her BAC. While officials did not release the results of the blood test, they said the case was forwarded to the Troy Detective Bureau for appropriate warrants.

The woman’s name was not released.
