Authorities believe a 19-year-old man was drunk or on drugs when he caused a three-vehicle crash in Oxford Township.

Two people are hospitalized and four others suffered minor injuries in the wreck Tuesday evening, on Lapeer Road (M-24) near Scenic Way.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the at-fault driver was headed northbound on Lapeer in a 2007 Hummer H3, just before 6 p.m., when he crossed over the center median into the southbound lane and struck a 2009 Ford Fusion head-on.

After being hit by the Hummer, the Fusion, driven by an 18-year-old Brandon Township man, struck a 2018 Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 44-year-old Holly resident with two children on board.

The Hummer overturned onto its roof, trapping the driver, officials said, and the Fusion driver was also trapped inside his vehicle.

The Oxford Township Fire Department responded to the scene and rescued the trapped drivers. Both were taken to a local hospital where they were listed in stable condition.

The passengers in the Fusion, a 16-year-old girl and a 17 year-old girl were both treated by EMS at the scene and released.

The Impala driver was not injured, and the kids, ages 11 and 7, were treated at the scene and released.

Officials said everyone involved was wearing their seatbelts, besides the Hummer driver, who was identified as an Oxford Township resident.

As the investigation continues, the sheriff's office said alcohol and/or drug usage by the Hummer driver is suspected, as the investigation continues.

Results of a blood tests are pending.

The suspect's name has not been released, with expected charges pending.
