DETROIT (WWJ) -- New life will soon be breathed into the former site of the Founders Detroit taproom — this time by Eastern Market Brewing Company.

The Detroit-based brewery has just signed a 5-year lease at the location on Charlotte Street and Cass Avenue in Midtown, with plans to open a self-serve taproom.

The 14,000-square-foot space will be called “Elephant & Co.”, and will feature dozens of self-serve brew options, as well as treats from the vegan bakery Dooped Donuts Cafe and Detroit-style pizzas.

Additionally, EMBC beer and pizzas will be available for delivery from the location.

This marks the second self-serve taproom from Eastern Market Brewing Co., following Lincoln Tap in Royal Oak, which opened in 2022 and will also be rebranded with the "Elephant & Co." moniker.

"Six years ago today, we poured our very first beer at Eastern Market After Dark,” said Dayne Bartscht, managing partner of Eastern Market Brewing Co. “We’ve come a long way, and this location will be a representation of everything we’ve learned. The name ‘Elephant & Co.’ is an ode to where it all started, with our elephant logo in Eastern Market, while ‘& Co.’ represents our many other brands. Charlotte Street will be a showcase for our beer, as well as our offerings beyond beer.”

The new Midtown location is set to open its doors in 2024.
