DETROIT (WWJ) - Eastern Market CEO Dan Carmody is currently hospitalized while his wife, Vivian, died of her injuries after the couple was stuck by a car while walking to dinner in Detroit on Friday evening.
The Eastern Market made the tragic announcement in a news release on Saturday, August 19, stating that Dan is currently in stable condition at Detroit Receiving Hospital while waiting to undergo an ankle surgery later in the day.
Sadly, Vivian did not survive the crash which occurred at the intersection of St. Aubin Street and Lafayette Street in Detroit.
“The Eastern Market family is deeply sorry for the Carmody family and will give our full support to Dan and his family through this incredibly sad and difficult time,” President Katy Trudeau said in a prepared statement.
According to the release, Detroit police took a suspect in the fatal crash into custody at the scene. It is not currently known if drugs, alcohol and/or speed were contributing factors.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
Trudeau will fill in as interim CEO while Dan continues to heal. Trudeau is to serve with support of the Eastern Market Board of Directors and Board President Cindy Pasky, the released stated.
As outlined by the Carmody Consulting web page, Vivian is remembered for her more than two decades of commitment to downtown development, brand identity, marketing and event management experience. She served as the Executive Director for the Berkley Downtown Development Authority, the Executive Director of Main Street Franklin and was the first-ever Marketing Manager for the Downtown St. Charles Partnership -- now the St. Charles Business Alliance.
