(WWJ) — An Eastpointe man is behind bars for allegedly strangling his wife to death last weekend.
Steven Frank Kolson Jr. is being held on $5 million bond after being arraigned on one count of first-degree premeditated murder in connection with the death of his wife, 43-year-old April Vitale.
Authorities have not released many details about Vitale's alleged murder, but the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office says the couple got into "an altercation" on Saturday, July 27, which resulted in her death by strangulation.
Officials did not say what led to the alleged altercation.
"This tragic case underscores the urgent need to address and stop domestic violence. We must work together as a community to protect the vulnerable and prevent such senseless acts of violence," Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido said in a press release.
If released, Kolson must wear a steel cuff GPS tether with home confinement and must have no contact with any witnesses or the victim's family.
His next court date has been scheduled for Aug. 13.
