(WWJ) A Port Huron man faces possible life in prison on charges for allegedly stabbing a complete stranger.
According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, 49-year-old Eric Dewayne Williams stabbed a victim at least three times in the stomach outside the Eastland Motel in Eastpointe on Saturday, August 8.
Williams allegedly fled the scene but later returned to the motel, where he was arrested, police said.
Police said the victim and Williams did not know each other.
Investigators did not find the weapon used in the stabbing, and they're not saying why they think he did it.
The victim is expected to be OK.
“These allegations are deeply disturbing, particularly when a stranger was allegedly targeted without provocation," said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido. "Such behavior will not be tolerated in our community."
William's bond has was set at $1-million cash/surety only at an arraignment Thursday in 38th District Court.
He's charged with with Assault with Intent to Murder, Tampering with Evidence, and as a Habitual Offender – Fourth Offense. Attempted murder is publishable by up to life in prison, while the latter charge carries a mandatory sentence of 25 years.
Williams will be back in court for a probable cause conference on Aug. 18.
