PONTIAC (WWJ) -- A teenager is in custody, suspected of shooting and killing a Lyft driver, early Friday morning in Oakland County.

The Oakland County Sherriff's Office said deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Putnam Ave. and Rundell St. Pontiac to what initially appeared to be a personal injury crash.

While deputies were en route to the area, dispatchers advised them that a man was seen running from the scene.

Deputies were flagged down by witnesses who reported that a silver Nissan Versa had struck a utility pole.

Inside the car, they discovered a female driver with an apparent gunshot wound to the back of the head.

The victim, identified as a 49-year-old Eastpointe woman, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The sheriff's office said investigators were able to determine that the woman was working as a Lyft driver.

A K9 team was deployed to track the suspect, and he was found and arrested without incident, officials said.

The 19-year-old Pontiac man was being interviewed by detectives, Friday afternoon, and will be lodged in the Oakland County Jail pending charges.

It's not yet clear whether the young man was the victim's passenger.

A motive for the slaying is unknown as the investigation continues.
