DETROIT (WWJ) An elderly man died in a house fire on Detroit’s east side, fire officials said.

A Detroit Fire Department spokesperson told WWJ the flames broke out around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, on Strong Street—in the area of Harper and M-53.

Crews pulled the man from the home. No one else was in the house at the time, fire officials said.

The man was listed in critical condition as first responders rushed him to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he passed away, according to fire officials.

His name and exact age were not released.

The DFD spokesperson said crews arrived at the home within five minutes and 24 seconds of the call, adding that it “was tough (for them) to get to the victim.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
