ROYAL OAK (WWJ) – We’ve all heard of dinner and a movie, but what about sports betting and a movie?

That’s what’s happening at the Emagine Royal Oak movie theater. Last December they opened up the Emagine Sports Lounge, giving customers the chance to watch games on big screens and use their mobile devices to place sports bets.

Now, Emagine is bringing a big name in the gaming industry into the fold – Caesars Entertainment.

Officials announced on Monday the lounge is being rebranded to the Caesars Sports Book Lounge Powered by Emagine. Officials say it is the first lounge of its kind in a movie theater.

The lounge features food and drinks, massive screens – about two stories tall and 40 feet wide – high-speed WiFi, a theater-quality sound system, heated leather recliners and large, individual tables.

It also includes a display dedicated to betting odds for those gambling on their phones. Officials say while Caesars is the preferred platform, any mobile sportsbook can be used.

Speaking live on WWJ Monday morning, Emagine chairman Paul Glantz said the sports could be drawing customers to the lounge who wouldn’t typically come to the theater.

“We might be able to capture a different market than maybe moviegoers,” he said.

Glantz says the rebrand is already underway, with signage going up “in the not too distant future.”

More information on the lounge, including hours, schedules and featured events, can be found on the Emagine website.
