DETROIT (WWJ) -- One of Detroit's casinos is undergoing a major rebranding and makeover.
Penn National Gaming announced Monday that the Greektown Casino-Hotel will be renamed Hollywood Casino on Sunday, May 1.
“Becoming Hollywood Casino at Greektown will offer our guests the best of both worlds: we’re keeping all of the unique, neighborhood charm that has defined Greektown since we opened our doors, while adding several new amenities that come with being a part of Penn National’s flagship brand family,” said John Drake, general manager of Hollywood Casino at Greektown. “Whether you’re a regular, loyal guest or a first-time visitor, we’ll have something new and improved for you to experience and enjoy.”
Along with the new name, the 100,000 square foot casino and 30-story hotel will bring immense changes and additions to the property.
Expected to be completed in the coming months is the $30 million renovation of the 1,200 square foot hotel lobby, along with the new lobby cocktail bar and redesign of all 400 of its guestrooms and suites.
Futhermore, the property's carpets, hallways, elevator vestibules and other common areas have received a floor-to-ceiling refresh, said Drake.
“Hollywood is coming to Detroit, and we’re ready to roll out the red carpet for our visitors and guests,” Drake said. “Its Tinsel Town meets Greektown.”
There will also be several other new food and beverage offerings, including Urban Cocktail and Rock Bar lounges, along with a new "upscale" Dunkin’ in the hotel lobby.
The Monroe Market food hall will welcome a new Detroit Taco Company location. Diners will also find new menu items at the property's steakhouse, Prism.
Besides food, gaming will even look different at the rebranded Greektown.
Hollywood Casino will be the first casino in Michigan to offer a cashless, cardless feature, called mywallet. Guests will be able to access this within the mychoice rewards app where they can connect to slot machines and table games with their phones. The Bluetooth-connected technology also allows guests to add funds, collect winnings and earn tier points, without the need to carry cards or cash.
Players will still have the option to use traditional options while playing their favorite games.
As for parking, Penn National Gaming has invested over $1 million towards the casino’s self-park and VIP parking garages.
The VIP Garage is a newly-remodeled 700+ space garage without public access, dedicated to the casino’s higher-tier level players and connected directly to the upper-level gaming floor. The garage technology features player card integration, moving walkways and a license plate recognition system, which allows for easy entry and exit.
Entertainment will also look different, as Hollywood Casino at Greektown has extended its partnership agreement with the Detroit Music Hall, welcoming award-winning artists for a variety of live musical and comedy performances.
