(WWJ) A former doctor in Metro Detroit will spend decades behind bars for sexual abuse crimes, including secretly recording nude family members, children and others.

Oumair Aejaz, 41, of Rochester Hills, pleaded no contest to 31 counts of sexual misconduct in two separate cases.

Appearing in Oakland County court on Tuesday, Aejaz was sentenced to 35 to 60 years in prison.

Investigators said Aejaz secretly recorded his wife and their two children, as well as female relatives in their home. He also recorded people changing at Goldfish Swim School in Rochester Hills.

He allegedly used hidden cameras in those locations and recorded victims — ranging in age from 2 years old to grown adults — while they were nude, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

It was his wife who tipped off investigators in August of 2024, and that's when the investigation began. Later, authorities said they uncovered that Aejaz also recorded himself sexually assaulting a 6-year-old child in Novi.

In addition to the crimes Aejaz has been convicted of, authorities say an open investigation into other potential crimes at medical facilities in other counties. According to attorneys for plaintiffs in a civil lawsuit, that Aejaz recorded himself sexually assaulting patients and had other devices set up to record or photograph patients who were undressed, disrobing, naked or using the bathroom.

Aejaz is a citizen of India who has been working in the U.S. on a visa, according to the sheriff’s office. He came to this country around 2011, completed his residency at Detroit Sinai Grace Hospital and then moved to Dawson, Alabama. Aejaz returned to Oakland County to continue his practice in internal medicine in 2018.

Authorities believe there could be upwards of thousands of victims between 2018 and 2024.
