(WWJ) The family of late FOX 2 meteorologist, Jessica Starr, has proposed a weather-themed splashpad in Novi in her memory.
Her mother, Carol Starr, spoke of her vision to Novi City Council on Monday.
"We wanted to have a place where her family could go and she could be remembered in a positive, happy, fun environment," Carol said in the release "One of the things her son and daughter said was a splash park so we thought what better place to be than with laughing, fun children and sunshine."
Starr took her own life in December of 2018, according to a statement from FOX 2. She left behind two young children and a husband who live in Novi, not far from Bosco Park on Beck and 11 Mile—the proposed site of the splash pad.
The splash pad was in part designed by Starr’s children. It will be accessible to all ages and abilities. It includes rainbows, umbrellas and other meteorological amenities on a 3,200 sq ft. pad.
The Starr family is partnering with the Novi Parks Foundation to raise $400,000 for initial construction, according to a press release from the city of Novi.
Starr worked at FOX 2 as the weekend meteorologist and appeared sometimes on The Nine (the 9 a.m. show)—since 2012.
She was only 35 years old.
