MONTCLAM COUNTY (WWJ) - One man is dead in what police are calling a "farming accident" involving a small tractor in West Michigan on Tuesday, authorities confirmed.
The Montclam County Sheriff's Office said the fatal incident occurred in the 14000 block of West Stanton Road in Maple Valley Township with deputies responding to the scene after receiving a 911 call around 5:30 p.m. on April 4.
According to deputies, an acquaintance found the 62-year-old male victim trapped beneath the tractor and called authorities.
When deputies arrived, they were led to the man who they saw laying on the ground between the rear tire of the tractor and a finish mower that had been mounted on the back.
They pronounced the 62-year-old from Trufant dead at the scene.
The acquaintance told officials that he found the victim on the ground with the tractor running, still in gear, and the rear wheels rotating.
According to the sheriff's office, it was clear that the tractor had been moving and came forward to finally rest against the wall of a barn.
While foul play is not suspected, deputies say they're still investigating how the victim ended up between the tractor wheel and the mower.
Investigators with the sheriff's office were helped at the scene by Montcalm County Central Dispatch, Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services, and the Lakeview Fire Department.
