Suspect in fatal Auburn Hills shooting arrested after calling 911 on himself

AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) – A Pontiac man is behind bars after calling the cops on himself following a shooting in Auburn Hills Saturday night.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. at a home on Doris Road, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say dispatchers got a call from a man saying he had shot someone at the home. When deputies showed up they found a 47-year-old Auburn Hills man with a gunshot wound. First responders took him to the hospital, where he later died.

The suspect and 911 caller, a 24-year-old man, was arrested in Pontiac. The suspect and weapon used in the shooting have been turned over to Auburn Hills police.

While the investigation is still ongoing, investigators believe the victim and suspect knew each other. The two got into an altercation that ended with shots fired.

No other details surrounding the shooting have been released, though officials say it was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.

The case will be turned over to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office to determine possible charges once the investigation is completed.
