DETROIT (WWJ) – At least one person is dead after a crash on Detroit’s west side Monday.

Many details surrounding the crash remain unclear, but there was a heavy police presence in the area of Outer Drive and Greenfield Road late Monday morning following the crash.

Traffic tipster Robert tells WWJ a car slammed into a tree, making for what he described as a “horrific” scene.

“The car is disintegrated in the middle of a tree. It’s in like 15 different pieces,” Robert said. “You can’t tell it’s even a car, just one tire’s in tact.”

Police confirmed one fatality in the crash, but no information about the suspect has been released.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash or whether any other vehicles were involved.

Robert said there were about eight police cars near the scene of the crash when he rode by on eastbound Outer.
