Fatal drive-by shooting in Detroit: Victim tried to get away but succumbed to injuries

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit police continue to investigate Monday morning after a 50-year-old man was fatally injured in a drive-by shooting.

According to police, the shooting took place at about 5 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

The victim was driving a Dodge Durango on 7 Mile Rd, near Ryan Rd on the city's east side.

He was stopped at a red light when a dark-colored, four-door sedan pulled up next to him and fired multiple rounds into his car.

The man attempted to escape, but he only drove a few blocks before crashing into a fence at nearby Pershing High School.

Police have not yet released the victim's identity.
