Father and daughter escape Grosse Pointe Park house fire

Grosse Pointe Park destroyed in fire

GROSSE POINTE PARK (WWJ) -- A family of two escaped unharmed when a ripped through a home in Grosse Pointe Park, early Wednesday morning.

Authorities said the massive electrical fire started around 7 a.m., in a two-story home on Wayburn Street near Vernor, along the Detroit border. Streets were blocked off in the area for safety.

Reporting from the scene, WWJ's Charlie Langton said the homeowner spotted smoke and escaped the house as quickly as possible with his 11-year-old daughter.

Firefighters knocked the fire down, it did not spread to any other homes, and no one was injured.

Langton reports that the 1,500-square foot home is a total loss, and the family will be looking for a place to stay.

"The owner, he says basically that he does have insurance, but he's gonna have to find a new place to live and really start over again," Langton said. "Because, really, everything he owned is in that house, and it is gone."

Authorities said the fire was found to be accidental.

The investigation is ongoing.
