DEARBORN (WWJ) -- The FBI has announced that a third Dearborn man has been arrested on charges in connection with an alleged Halloween weekend terror plot in Metro Detroit.
The U.S. Justice Department said in a news release Wednesday that 19-year-old Ayob Nasser of Dearborn is now in custody, charged in an amended complaint with conspiring to provide material support to ISIS — a "radical Islamic terror group that has repeatedly killed Americans."
Mohmed Ali, Majed Mahmoud, and now Nasser — all three Dearborn residents — are also charged with having firearms that would be used to commit an act of terrorism on behalf of ISIS.
The FBI said the amended complaint adds to the already chilling allegations of their radical Islamic terror plot involving AR-style rifles, shotguns, handguns, and other tools for a tactical assault.
The group, the FBI said, amassed weapons, practiced shooting, and scoped potential targets — including LGBTQ+ bars and clubs in Ferndale.
“We will not stop. We will follow the tentacles where they lead. We will continue to stand guard with the FBI against terrorism,” said U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon, Jr, in a statement.
"FBI Detroit and its Joint Terrorism Task Force will continue to investigate, arrest, and disrupt all attempts or plots to do harm to our residents or to anyone within the United States,” added Jennifer Runyan, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office. “Nothing will stop us from working with our law enforcement partners, including the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan, to accomplish our mission of defending the homeland and upholding the constitution.”
News of the third Metro Detroit arrest comes after, Wednesday morning, it was reported that two New Jersey residents, Milo Sedarat Tomas Kaan Guzel, were arrested at the Newark Liberty International Airport in connection with the investigation.
At least one of the New Jersey men, it's alleged, was in communication with the Dearborn suspects. However, it's not yet clear if Sedarat and Guzel are accused of being directly involved in the Metro Detroit plot.
The investigation is ongoing.
