(WWJ) Two men have been arrested in New Jersey in connection with an FBI investigation into an alleged terror attack planned take place on Halloween weekend in Metro Detroit.
FBI officials confirmed, Wednesday afternoon, that two were taken into custody by the Joint Terrorism Task Force at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on charges in connection with the alleged mass shooting plot.
According to the FBI, one of those suspects — 19-year old Montclair, New Jersey man — had talked with friends about wanting to train with ISIS and was planning to travel to the Middle East. A second man from Monclair was also arrested, Wednesday morning.
Five suspects are now jailed in connection with the alleged plot, after two were arrested in Dearborn last Friday.
Those two, it's alleged in a criminal complaint, had amassed a large collection of firearms they intended to use to carry out the attack, which was reportedly intended to target LGBTQ+ clubs in Ferndale.
NBC New York reports its sources said the Montclair man was planning to fly to Turkey on Nov. 17, and then on to Syria, but he allegedly moved up his timeline after news broke about arrests in Metro Detroit.
Both Montclair men were expected to appear in federal court in Newark Wednesday afternoon, although the details of those charges and how they're connected to the Dearborn suspects have not yet been released.
