DETROIT (WWJ) -- Authorities are conducting a search on the west side of Detroit — reportedly for human remains.
A spokesman from the Detroit office of the FBI confirmed to WWJ Newsradio 950 that personnel from the bureau were on the scene:, in a neighborhood off I-96 near Tireman.
Photos shared to social media showed FBI and police officers present, with digging ongoing at the site, as of late Monday morning, in what appears to be a vacant lot near some homes.
Streets near I-96 and Tireman were blocked off by police.
The FBI spokesman would not release any details about the ongoing investigation, only saying that the FBI was "conducting law enforcement activities" at that location.
The spokesman added that there is not believed to be any threat to the public at this time.
