DETROIT (WWJ) -- A popular and historic eatery in Midtown Detroit is now destroyed after a huge fire broke out overnight.

The Detroit Fire Department said they got a call around 2 a.m. about a fire at Traffic Jam and Snug, a restaurant on Canfield Avenue, between Cass Avenue and Second Street.

Detroit's acting fire chief said all of the wooden floors inside of the building erupted in flames so fast, making the restaurant a complete loss -- except for the micro brewpub in the back.

Traffic Jam and Snug opened in 1965 as the first brewpub in Michigan and was a special place for many people, including the fire chief who had to help put the fire out.

"It's sad to see them go but... they went," he said.

No injuries were reported, as nobody was inside the building when the fire began.

Because of the installation of firewalls, Shinola and Mario's on either side of the establishment were completely untouched.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials don't find it to be suspicious.
