Michiganders burned out on their current takeout and dining-in options, take heart: A new joint is coming to town and they're bringing unique, original hot dogs and charbroiled burgers.

Fast-casual brand Portillo's is excited to announce that it will host the grand opening for its first-ever restaurant in Michigan, located in Sterling Heights, on March 16, 2021. The restaurant, sitting at 14425 Lakeside Circle in the popular restaurant and retail corridor of the Northern suburb of Detroit, officially opens to the public at 10:30am.

"We always look forward to opening Portillo's in new markets," said CEO Michael Osanloo. "Fans in Michigan have been asking for a Portillo's for years, so we're very excited to bring our unrivaled Chicago street food and the signature Portillo's experience to the community of Sterling Heights."

Portillo's is now hiring in anticipation of the opening. On average, Portillo's hires approximately 150 people for new restaurants. The restaurant is looking to fill a variety of hourly and shift leader positions. Details can be found at portillos.com/careers.

Once open, guests can expect to enjoy Portillo's signature menu items like Chicago-Style Hot Dogs, Famous Italian Beef Sandwiches, Char-Grilled Burgers and Portillo's Famous Chocolate Cake. The 7,900-square-foot restaurant with seating for more than 180 guests.

It is the first Portillo's to feature a garage-style theme with décor elements such as a fully restored 1931 Ford Wrecker, drawing inspiration from the area's vast automotive history. Outside, it features double drive-thru lanes as well a seasonal outdoor patio with seating for more than 50 guests.

To help launch the new restaurant, Portillo's designed a limited-edition t-shirt for this location. Guests are invited to sign up for Portillo's Birthday Club to receive one of these shirts on opening day, while supplies last. Fans who sign up also receive a slice of Portillo's homemade chocolate cake on their birthday.

Fans are invited to register for a chance to attend a sneak peek training meal prior to opening and receive updates on the Portillo's Sterling Heights location by signing up here.

Guests can also get a taste of Portillo's before the new restaurant opens from the Portillo's Beef Bus, which will serve Portillo's famous Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef, cheese fries and beverages. Beef Bus team members will wear masks; guests are required to wear facial coverings as well. Portillo's will mark 6-foot distances in line, so guests can maintain social distancing. The Beef Bus will begin operating in Sterling Heights starting February 17, 2021.
