KALAMAZOO (WWJ) -- Earlier this week there was a wild car chase on I-94 in southwest Michigan involving an allegedly stolen vehicle driven by someone not even old enough to have a license.
According to the Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbot, five teenagers ranging in age from 14 to 17 led police on a chase Monday from Paw Paw to Portage. The driver? A 14-year-old.
The chase, at times, reached speeds of more than 100 mph, officials said.
Before the chase, police said the teens allegedly took a purse from someone's grocery cart.
The teens ended up crashing into another vehicle on I-94 near Kalamazoo, causing that vehicle to roll over and catch fire. The teens then fled on foot.
The young suspects had to be tracked down by deputies and a K-9, said police.
The driver was taken to the Kalamazoo Juvenile Detention center while the others were released to their parents. However, the police said they could all potentially face charges.
There were no major injuries.
