MIDLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - Officials announced Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will be in Michigan next month as the special guest of the Midland County Republican Party.
DeSantis, who is being encouraged to pursue the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, will make his visit to the state to attend the Midland County GOP's Dave Camp Spring Breakfast on April 6.
"Gov. DeSantis needs no introduction, and we are excited to announce he is coming to Midland," an email from the Midland County GOP stated. "This is an amazing opportunity for Republicans across the Great Lakes Bay Region, and we hope you will join us for this historic event."
According to the invitation, reservations for the event -- named after U.S. Rep. Dave Camp of Midland — costs $100 and they're expected to "go fast."
State Rep. Bill Schuette, R-Midland, said he's excited for DeSantis' visit and praised how the southern governor manages his state.
"His leadership in Florida shows the type of success that a free state with conservative leadership can bring," Schuette said.
DeSantis' visit will be marked as the battleground state's highest profile visit so far by a possible 2024 Republican presidential nominee. DeSantis won a second term as Florida Governor in 2022 and while he has not yet formally cast his name into the race for president, over a dozen GOP lawmakers in Michigan are encouraging him to run.
Former President Donald Trump emerged as the front runner for the Republican nomination after he announced his campaign back on Nov. 15. Last month. former South Carolina governor and United Nations ambassador under Trump, formally launched her presidential bid.
Former Vice President Mike Pence is also eyed as a potential candidate.
