(WWJ) A suspect kidnapped a Flat Rock man and robbed him at gunpoint in Monroe, the sheriff’s office said.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office told WWJ the victim, 35, met with an “acquaintance” at TA Travel Center on Dixie Highway near I-75 Friday evening or late afternoon.
The Sheriff said the investigation revealed the victim picked up his “acquaintance” earlier and drove him to various places around the county.
During the ride, the suspect, 26, pulled out a gun and robbed the victim, according to authorities. The suspect fired one round. Still at gunpoint, the suspect forced the victim out of the driver’s seat and took over control of the vehicle.
He eventually released the victim behind Heck Park on Dixie near I-75 about a half-mile away from the travel center and drove off in the victim's car. Investigators did not specify how long the encounter lasted. The victim flagged down a passerby to get help and report the incident--around 7:15 p.m.
Within “a few hours,” deputies found the suspect and the stolen car on Lewis Ave. (6600 block) in Bedford Township—about 20 miles away. The suspect was taken into custody without a problem.
He is being held at the Monroe County Jail. His name has not been released pending a prosecutor's review.
The victim is hospitalized with “non-life-threatening” injuries.
