(WWJ) A young man involved in a crash in a construction zone along I-75 in northern Oakland County was hit and killed after getting out of his car.
Michigan State Police say the crash happened at 10:20 Tuesday night in the southbound lanes of I-75 near Grange Hall Road.
A preliminary investigation shows the Burton man, 25, was driving too fast and hit the wall in the construction zone. The car ended up stopped in the left lane and the driver got out and was standing next to the vehicle when a second driver hit the broken down car and the man, who ended up on the freeway where he was hit by a third vehicle.
The Burton man died at the scene.
“I can not say this enough, stay in your car if you are involved in a crash,” said Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw said in a social media post. “The pedestrian who was not hurt during the initial crash, ended up losing his life due to standing in the road after that crash. Stay in your vehicle, keep your seatbelt on and call 911.”
The other drivers, who were not hurt, stopped and talked with investigators.
