FLINT (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway after a fatal shooting involving a police officer in Flint left one woman dead this weekend.

According to Michigan State Police, the Flint officer was working a traffic point for the Juneteenth Celebration Parade on Saturday just after 2:00 p.m. when a person in a vehicle drove up and started to shoot.

The officer then fired back at the driver, striking the suspect, who was reportedly a 19-year-old woman.

MSP Lt. Kim Vetter told the Detroit Free Press that the woman later died at the hospital from her injuries.

The officer was not injured in the incident, and has been placed on paid leave pending investigation from State Police.
