MONROE (WWJ) - A porch pirate who allegedly stole a packages from the doorsteps of Monroe homes was arrested early Tuesday morning after police say the weather helped their investigation.

The Monroe Public Safety Department said officers were dispatched around 4:45 a.m. on Nov. 28 to a home in the 300 block of W. Elm Ave. on reports of a stolen package.

According to the resident, the suspect -- wearing a knitted cap, sweatshirt and sweatpants -- was caught on their Ring doorbell camera taking the package before walking off.

Officers observed footprints in the snow and followed them before finding several items and package wrapping, all suspected of being stolen by the suspect.

"Soon after, officers located a 36-year-old male from Monroe, wearing boots matching the footprints in the snow and the description as depicted on the Ring camera," the department added.

The man was taken into custody. His identity was not released pending his arraignment.

The incident remains under investigation at this time. Anyone with information related to the case as been asked to contact Corporal Timmins (734)243-7560 or Sergeant Cathey (734)243-7570.
