Most would say that trying to out-comedy Will Ferrell is a bad idea, but that's just what Ford Motor Co did after General Motors released its Super Bowl ad featuring the laugh legend.
After GM released its Ferrell vs. Norway ad (see it above), meant to highlight the company's move into EV, Ford released a message of its own.
"Ford created a 23-second spot to the backdrop of James Bond-style music that features Mustang Mach-E SUVs driving the streets of Norway and delivering pizzas around Oslo, spotlighting the company that not only sells in Europe now (GM doesn't) and sells to Norwegians now (GM doesn't) but currently is delivery an all-new all-electric vehicle now (GM doesn't)," freep.com reported.
All is nice in Norway? Not so fast. It's more like a deep freeze.
Today, well over half of new vehicles sold in Norway are electric. Comparatively, EVs made up less than 4 percent of market share in the United States in 2020. GM’s flexible Ultium platform is designed to improve EV accessibility for all, powering everything from mass-market to high-performance vehicles.
Will Ferrell hasn't responded, at least not yet. But the enthusiastic EV owner has said he was delighted to take part in the ad.
“The big game is the perfect venue for the incomparable Will Ferrell to encourage us all to reconsider what we know about electric vehicles, and to invite ‘Everybody In’,” said Deborah Wahl, GM global chief marketing officer. "We admire his passion for EVs and share Norway’s pursuit of an all-electric future.”
