COMSTOCK PARK (WWJ) - A baseball announcer in West Michigan is earning internet fame for calling an at-bat as if it was happening at the most prestigious golf tournament in the U.S.

The now-viral performance from West Michigan Whitecaps play-by-play announcer and former 97.1 the Ticket host Dan Hasty has garnered over 1.6 million views on Twitter.

"Looks like I’m a Golf Commentator now," Hasty said in a post about the segment during Saturday's game.

The Whitecaps, a Minor League Baseball team of the Midwest League and the High-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, took on the Fort Wayne TinCaps on April 8th, finishing off three-game series that took place during the 87th edition of the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Ga.

And Hasty couldn't pass up the opportunity.

While soft Masters music chimed in the background, Hasty let loose his inner golf broadcaster and began to call the at bat with a soft and familiar, "Hello, friends."

He continued his play-by-play commentary in a soft tone, describing the baseball game as if he was at Augusta National Golf Club.

“Right now, looking at a pitch from 60 feet, 6 inches,” Hasty continued in hushed tones as a pitch was thrown and called a ball. “No idea how that one stayed out.”

Sports Illustrated called Hasty's commentary "tremendous from start to finish." while hundreds of commenters on social media praised his performance.

“Exquisite” Hasty declared at one point in his play-by-play.

And we have to agree.

The Whitecaps swept the Fort Wayne TinCaps for a 3-1 in a come-from-behind victory on Saturday afternoon at LMCU Ballpark, located in the suburbs of Grand Rapids.

The Whitecaps improve to 3-0 during their first homestand of the year.
