DETROIT (WWJ) -- After pleading guilty to sexually exploiting a 13-year-old girl who was under his care, a Garden city man will spend the next 18 years behind bars.
Carl Richard Drife, 60, was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in connection an investigation into child pornography.
In 2022, online investigators discovered images and recordings of a naked 13-year-old girl saved in the Drife's email accounts and contacted authorities.
The photos and videos were of a young woman who was in Drife's care about 15 years earlier.
Drife was arrested, and police found that he was in possession of other sexually explicit images of children, some as young as five.
Eventually pleading guilty, the man was given an 18-year sentence.
"This defendant abused his position of caregiver and abused a child he was supposed to protect," said U.S. Attorney Dawn N. Ison. "This sentence holds him rightly accountable."
This case was investigated by the Southeast Michigan Trafficking and Exploitation Crimes Task Force of the FBI and Michigan State Police.
