(WWJ) A man visiting Detroit from Georgia has been charged with premeditated murder in a deadly shooting at an east side motel.

Darryl Henry Johnson, 24, is scheduled to be arraigned in 36th District Court Friday in connection with the slaying last weekend.

On Saturday, March 27, it is alleged that Johnson was with the victim, 29-year-old Otis Coli of Detroit, and four others people who were having a gathering at the motel, in the 14700 block of 8 Mile Rd., west of Gratiot Ave.

Responding to a call about shots fired, Detroit Police officers arrived to find Coli lying on his back, suffering from a gunshot wound on his left side.

The victim was treated at the scene and then rushed to a local hospital where he later died.

According to prosecutors, it is alleged that Johnson and Coli had been arguing when the situation escalated, Johnson pulled a gun and fatally shot Coli.

Investigators said the defendant also pointed his gun at two men and two women, all Detroit residents, who witnessed the shooting.

Police said Johnson fled on foot following incident, but was arrested a short time later with the help of a relative.

Johnson has been charged by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy with First Degree Murder, four counts of Felonious Assault, and five counts of Felony Firearm.

He remains jailed awaiting his initial court appearance.
