(WWJ) A Georgia man has been charged in connection to a murder at a Detroit hotel.
Darryl Johnson, 24, of Dalton, Georgia is charged with shooting and killing Otis Coil, 29, of Detroit.
Detroit Police were dispatched to a motel on 8 Mile near Gratiot in the late evening of March 27th where Coil, Johnson and four others held a gathering.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim lying on his back with a gunshot wound to his left side. An officer tried to help him until an ambulance arrived.
Police say the defendant and the victim got into a verbal fight, that lead to Johnson shooting Coil. Coil died at the hospital.
“It is further alleged that the defendant pointed his gun at two men and two women, of Detroit, who were inside…at the time of the incident,” a press release from the prosecutor’s office read.
Johnson has been charged with First Degree murder, four counts of felonious assault, and five counts of Felony Firearm. He is due back in court on April 15.
