Getting around downtown doesn't have to be difficult for the Tigers home opener

DETROIT (WWJ) – Baseball fans are ready to welcome the Detroit Tigers back to Comerica Park.


Thousands of people are expected to descend downtown for the annual home opener. In 2025, around 200,000 people were in downtown Detroit for the festivities.

All streets around the park will be closed to vehicle traffic during home games. Road closures will go in effect approximately 3 hours before every game.

If you're driving yourself downtown, and can snag a street spot, the City of Detroit is offering free parking at meters on April 3rd. Enforcement of meters will resume on Saturday, April 4th from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.

There are also several apps you can use to reserve parking in advance.

Parking can be reserved in advance through ParkWhiz.com or The District Detroit website. The ParkDetroit app also allows you to find, reserve and pay for parking. These apps will allow drivers to pre-pay for city-owned garages and private lots.

With downtown parking limited and heavy traffic almost certain, the city is encouraging visitors to use public transportation to reach Comerica Park.

SMART is offering free bus rides on all fixed routes for Opening Day.

The QLINE is always free and they have a park-and-ride option. Parking is just $5 at Wayne State Lot 14 on Woodward Ave. near TechTown Detroit and Wayne State Lot 12 on Harper and Woodward.

Both park-and-ride locations are short walks to the Amsterdam St. QLINE station, from where riders can board and take the QLINE to the Montcalm Station, which lets you off across the street from Comerica Park.

Detroit Police officials are also urging safety for this home opener. Uber and Lyft will both be running before, during and after the game.

Lyft has partnered with Wallside Windows to provide a half-off “Smart Ride With Wallside” for fans who use Lyft to get home safely. Fans leaving Comerica Park will be able to enter the promo code WALLSIDE2026 in the Lyft app before requesting a ride. Wallside Windows will pay for half the cost of their ride home up to $30.
