INKSTER (WWJ) — A woman who was missing for seven years has been reunited with her family after she was found being held against her will at a Metro Detroit motel.

Michigan State Police detectives got a tip on Monday from a woman who said her stepdaughter, who had been missing since 2017, contacted her.

The victim said she was being held at a motel in Inkster. Detectives with the MSP Special Investigation Section (SIS) and Trafficking and Abduction Group (TAG) were able to determine she was at the Evergreen Motel on Michigan Avenue between Inkster and Middlebelt Roads.

When detectives and troopers showed up to the motel they "heard a girl screaming and crying" in a motel room, according to MSP. They were able to make forcible entry and recover the victim.

She was taken to Beaumont Dearborn for a medical evaluation and interview by detectives. She was reunited with family and given other resources to help her recover, according to MSP.

The woman is now 30 years old, according to police.

SIS investigators seized drugs, cell phones and a gun after executing a search warrant. Authorities did not say where the search took place.

Officials say a suspect has been identified, but it was not immediately clear if any arrests have been made. Authorities did not release any information about the suspect or charging information.

TAG investigators are continuing to work to determine whether human trafficking was involved in the case.

"Great work by TAG detectives following this tip and rescuing this girl and getting her back with her family," MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said.
