CENTER LINE (WWJ) -- Help is wanted for the family of a Macomb County girl who suffered serious injuries when a car drove through her home while she slept.
Early Monday morning, an alleged drunk driver crashed a Chevy Trax into a unit in the Kramer Homes neighborhood near 10 Mile Rd. and Van Dyke in Center Line.
According to a Gofundme seeking financial help for the family, a 9-year-old Laila was asleep in her bedroom, when the force of the crash pushed her into the yard.
Laila's aunt, who set up the fundraiser, her niece suffered three spinal injuries, a fractured nose, and a liver laceration.
The aunt writes: "Laila's ongoing recovery along with extensive therapy, coupled with having a toddler, necessitates that she be out of work for quite some time. So, anything that helps reduce her stress during this traumatic experience is greatly appreciated... Our Girl has a long road to recovery ahead of her and all prayers are appreciated."
More than $26,000 had already been raised by Tuesday morning.
