GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) Grand Rapids Fire has ended their search for a woman who went missing in the Grand River.

The Grand Rapids Fire Department announced the conclusion of their search, conducted with the help of Grand Rapids Police and the Kent County Sheriff's Office, around 1 p.m., Sunday, January 26th.

They said their water rescue team was dispatched Saturday (January 25) just before 10:30 p.m. on reports of a woman who had entered the Grand River, and was “carried down by the swift running waters.”

Airboats, swimmers, and divers searched for her along the Blue Bridge, Fulton Bridge and railroad tracks until midnight. Police and fire resumed the search Sunday morning, fire officials said.

The icy conditions limited the area in which they are able to search, according to fire officials.

They said no further search efforts will be conducted unless they learn of new information.

No additional information was released about the woman, including her age or city of residence.

Fire officials said the City urges everyone to stay a safe distance away from the Grand River at all times, especially during the winter months, as snow and ice can create unstable conditions.

The Grand River is Michigan’s longest rivers, at over 250 miles, running from Grand Haven (on the west coast of Michigan) to Jackson in the south-central part of the state.
