DETROIT (WWJ) -- A graffiti artist with an affinity for Beavis and Butthead is now in trouble with the law.

WWJ's Kyle Kimball reports Brian Herron — who goes by "BVIS" — is allegedly responsible for spray painting thousands of Beavis heads all over Detroit, and is now facing criminal charges.

According to Detroit Police, Heron outed himself in a local magazine where he boasted he'd do up to 20 Beavis heads a night across the city, and in some suburbs, too.

Heron called it a compulsion, saying MTV's Beavis and Butthead was his favorite cartoon growing up.

While many of the Bevis head painting have been cleaned up, you can still spot some around 8 Mile Rd. and I-75. on construction materials and a few buildings. It was also reported there's still a Bevis head inside a supermarket.

Speaking to Fox 2, Detroit Police Capt. Marcus Thirlkill said the artist deciding to come forward certainly backfired.

"Although most of us love cartoons as kids, we can't go around painting our favorite cartoon characters on multiple locations all over the region," Thirlkill told WJBK.

While police did not state exactly what Heron has been charged with, a vandalism charge would be expected in a case like this. Under Michigan law, a misdemeanor vandalism offense is punishable between $200 and $1,000: prison for up to one year and/or a fine up to $1,000.
