
DETROIT (WWJ) - For the first time in 32 years, the Detroit Grand Prix has made its roaring return to the downtown streets on Friday morning.
Race fans once again heard the sound of engines racing along Jefferson Avenue and the Detroit Riverfront as practice rounds commenced for the 2023 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear.
The race, which spans over three days, kicked off Friday, June 2 and will go through the 4th with four different series racing on the new track after over three decades on Belle Isle.
Gates opened to the public for Comerica Bank Free Prix Day at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, the first day of the race, with grandstands 1 & 9 will be available for general admission seating.
The Detroit Grand Prix website outlines a complete schedule of events, but here is what fans can expect on Free Prix Day.
• 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. - IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge practice
• 9:50 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. - Trans Am Series practice
• 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. - IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge practice
• 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. - Trans Am Series practice
• 1:50 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. - Indy NXT practice
• 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. - NTT IndyCar Series practice
• 4:50 p.m. to 5:05 p.m. - IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge qualifying
• 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. - Indy NXT qualifying
