MSP: Gun stolen 17 years ago found after car crash in Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A car crash in Detroit ended with a 63-year-old man in custody for having a stolen pistol.

Michigan State Police said they were on the scene of a two-car injury crash with people trapped inside on northbound M-39 near Grand River Avenue on Sunday at 11:45 p.m.

While headed to the scene, officials were notified that the driver was unconscious. Upon arrival, it was observed the driver was in possession of a .22 caliber pistol that was reported stolen out of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania in 2005.

The suspect was transported to the hospital and turned over to police custody due to his injuries and level of intoxication.

An investigation is ongoing.
