INKSTER (WWJ) -- One person is in custody after a shooting led to an extensive police response in an Inkster neighborhood, Thursday morning.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton said some young students had to be escorted by police officers to their school bus stops after shots were fired at police near LeMoyne Gardens apartments, on Pine Street off Middlebelt.
Langton, who was on the scene all morning, described what it was like as several police departments set up a perimeter.
"This was a very hectic scene when I arrived because there was a barricaded gunman, and we didn't know exactly what was going on — other than we had a report that four or five shots were fired," Langton said. "Police had to escort kids to the buses, and people were told to stay inside their homes while the cops searched for this gunman."
While Langton said it was a very tense situation, no children were harmed. In fact, there were no injuries reported in this shooting.
As for what happened, police said the suspect fired shots at officer earlier in the morning, and then barricaded himself inside an apartment.
He was taken into custody before 9 a.m.
Police said they believe this is the same suspect, a man in his 30s, who threatened to shoot at police about a year ago. His name has not been released, as the investigation continues.
