HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) -- A local judge has dismissed election fraud charges against a Hamtramck city council member.
Councilman Muhtasin Sadman was accused of forging an absentee ballot and helping two voters cast ballots in the 2023 election. The accusation was made by former city manager, Max Garbarino. As a result, the city council subsequently suspended and fired him.
Judge Alexis Krot in Hamtramck's 31st District Court dismissed the charges today because two of the key witnesses to the case did not appear despite being served subpoenas. Sadman was also charged with making a false statement on an absentee ballot -- a misdemeanor. That charge was not thrown out.
The charges follow a two-month investigation by the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, which was appointed by the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan to look into the allegations made by Garbarino in May.
