HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) -- There's an expanded police presence around schools in Hamtramck on Tuesday.
The police department said it is placing officer patrols at all schools in the city during drop-off and pick-up to address "growing safety concerns."
The department did not say what safety concerns they will be addressing specifically, but said these efforts will be focused on protecting students, family and staff. Officials ask drivers to be careful in school zones.
Hamtramck resident Mario Hujerai said, while he doesn't know what these safety concerns could be, he doesn't have a problem with having extra cops around the schools.
"No, there's nothing wrong with that. It's just a precautionary measure, I guess. So, I agree with them," he told WWJ's Charlie Langton. "But, people get scared when they see cops."
Schools officials, meanwhile, are asking that all Hamtramck parents to drive carefully and be mindful in school zones.
Police said they will cracking down on those who park near yellow lines at schools, and drivers who park near the lines will be ticketed.
