HARRISON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Harper Woods woman is facing 15 years behind bars after prosecutors claim she was driving under the influence when she hit and killed a man crossing the street in a wheelchair over the weekend.
Darci Repine, 42, was arraigned on Monday, Nov. 13 on one charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated causing Death -- a 15-year-felony -- in connection to the fatal crash that occurred the day before, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido announced.
Officials say that Repine was operating her vehicle while drunk when she struck a man as he crossed Metro Parkway, near North Pointe Parkway, in an electric wheelchair at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 12.
Repine remained on the scene and police arrived to find two nurses administering CPR to the victim. Police took over life-saving measures until the Harrison Township Fire Department arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital.
He was pronounced dead after arriving, authorities said.
Repine was arrested and appeared in 41B Clinton Twp. District Court for her arraignment where a judge set a $50,000 personal bond.
"When someone drives under the influence and takes an innocent life, we will seek accountability for those actions," Lucido said.
A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 27 at 1:30 p.m.
