HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) — A Harrison Township man is behind bars after making a bomb threat Tuesday in a reported attempt to keep his car from being repossessed.
Around 9 a.m. Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Bradford Drive inside the Willow Point Mobile Home Park, where a 45-year-old man had allegedly placed a propane tank in the front seat of his car with an electrical wire running from the tank to inside the middle console.
The sheriff’s office says there was a second tank affixed to the driver’s side front wheel with copper wire running underneath the car.
There were several signs inside the car against the windshield warning not to touch the car “as it would blow up,” officials said.
Deputies closed Bradford Drive and evacuated homes in the immediate area.
The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad was called to the scene and determined that “the apparatus was a hoax.”
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody and the sheriff’s office is requesting he be charged with device representing or presented as explosive, a five-year felony.
Authorities have not released any other information about the incident, including whether the man’s car was ultimately repossessed.
