(WWJ) - High wave action, strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions will affect the shores of Lake Michigan starting on Thursday, officials say, just days after three people drowned on the state's west side.
The National Weather Service issued a Beach Hazards Statement from Ludington down to Benton Harbor ahead of dangerous conditions that will affect beachgoers in Mason, Oceana, Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren and Muskegon counties on Thursday.
Experts said strong currents will have the potential to pull swimmers into deeper water and high waves can sweep people off piers.
Residents and tourists at north facing beaches in west Michigan such as Stearns Park, Muskegon State Park, Holland State Park, Mears State Park and North Beach of South Haven, should be especially cautious and stay out of the water.
"High wave action, strong currents, and dangerous swimming conditions expected," the forecasters said. "Piers may be heavily swamped by waves."

"Remember, there is no such thing as "safe" water, so please stay safe when you visit the beach," officials from Holland State Park said on Wednesday. "Keep an eye on loved ones in the water."
The issued statement comes after three people drowned at Grand Haven State Park and South Beach over the last week.
