ALPENA TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A crash in Alpena Township Monday night left two dead and two injured, authorities said.

Michigan State Police troopers responded to a report of a crash involving two vehicles on US-23 between North Partridge Point Road and South Partridge Point Road on March 11 at around 7:48 p.m.

An initial investigation found that a 21-year-old man from Harrisville was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram south on US-23. Along with the driver, there was a 21-year-old Lincoln man and a 19-year-old Ossineke man, a Tweet from the Michigan State Police Seventh District said.

According to a witness, the truck was “driving over the posted speed limit and weaving prior to the crash,” the Tweet said.

A 28-year-old man from Ossineke was driving north in a 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche.

The Ram crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and hit the Avalanche head on, police said.

The 19-year-old passenger in the Ram was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Avalanche had to be extracted from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

The driver of the Ram and the 21-year-old passenger were both taken to MyMichigan Medical Center in Alpena. Both were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
