BRIGHTON TWP. (WWJ) — Traffic is getting back to normal after Metro Detroit drivers dealt with long backups during Tuesday’s afternoon commute after a semi-truck fire.
Michigan State Police officials say a truck caught fire in the express lanes of westbound I-96 near Kensington Road in Brighton Township around 3 p.m.
The freeway was down to one lane as crews cleaned up and investigated. There were heavy backups in the area as the closures were in place until just before 6 p.m., according to MSP.
Drivers were being told to find an alternate route.
Officials are not sure what caused the fire, which destroyed the entire cab of the truck, shown in a photo posted to MSP’s social media pages.
No injuries were reported.
