DETROIT (WWJ) -- Tickets to attend the grand re-opening of Michigan Central Station in Corktown are available this morning, and they're in high-demand.
When tickets were made available at noon Tuesday, the website crashed, so tickets to a "Live from Detroit" concert on June 6, and ten days of tours of the building were temporarily paused.
Officials apologized for the delay, and cited "overwhelming demand."
Registration on the website reopened Wednesday, May 22 at 9 a.m. EST for 'Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central' and the Open House. Capacity is limited and tickets are available first come, first served basis.
The website for tickets is michigancentral.com.
When the website loads, and it may be spotty, some people are seeing the message: "YOU'RE IN LINE. THANKS FOR WAITING." Keep trying, as many people were able to reserve their tickets for the Open House tour.
At 9:30 a.m., it appeared that tickets for the concert were sold out. A message on the concert page reads: Thank you for your interest in attending Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central. Unfortunately, this event has reached capacity, and registration is now closed. There’s still a chance to be part of the opening celebration, and Michigan Central and Ford Motor Company invite you to explore the newly renovated Michigan Central Station June 7-16. Tickets for the immersive OPEN House tour experience are still available. Registration is required, click here for more information.
Ford Motor Co. says it's transforming the station into a new mobility innovation hub that will not only serve as a key working place for the future of the auto industry, but a gathering place for the community, complete with restaurants, retail and a renovated public park.
WWJ AutoBeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert got a tour of the building’s progress in the summer of 2022 to see how it transitioned from an eyesore to a gem.
