(WWJ) -- There were more than 6,000 DTE Energy customers in the metro Detroit area reported on Wednesday and more outages were expected throughout the day.
That number had dropped to around just 500 homes and business across metro Detroit by 5:30 p.m.
The largest outage area was in Ypsilanti Township near I-94 and Rawsonville Road, where an equipment problem caused about 5,000 outages.
Another outage had also been reported near McNichols and Greenfield Roads on Detroit's northwest side.

As high winds and low temperatures moved into Southeast Michigan on Wednesday, the outages peaked early in the day, though the area remains under a Wind Advisory until 10 p.m.
Officials with DTE said the expected high winds could cause more outages across the area throughout the day.
In Detroit, wind gusts were expected to reach a high of 46 mph with steady wind at 22 mph on Wednesday.
Snow showers are expected throughout Wednesday with temperatures looking to be in the 20s during the afternoon and getting as low as 15 degrees Fahrenheit at night with winds subsiding, according to AccuWeather.
This is a developing story, stay with WWJ for the very latest.
